The second Budget Referendum polls will be open from 6AM until 8PM.
The second referendum includes a reduction of $166,000 in expenditures is as follows:
- $46,000 from capital (delay replacing the vehicle for the Assistant Public Safety Director)
- $33,477 from the Town (eliminate replacing a vacant laborers position in the Parks Department, which was scheduled for January 1, 2017)
- $86,523 from the Board of Education
- One Math Intervention Teacher position at Birch Grove Primary School
- One-half English Teacher position at Tolland High School
- All Schools: Reduction in Office and Instructional Supplies
- The Board of Education Budget also includes the following cuts maintained from the first referendum:
- Two First-Grade Teachers from Birch Grove Primary School
- One Fifth-Grade Teacher and One Fourth-Grade Teacher from Tolland Intermediate School
- One Family Consumer Science Teacher from Tolland Middle School
- One Math Intervention Teacher from Tolland Middle School
- One Social Studies Teacher from Tolland High School
- One Technology Education Teacher from Tolland High School
- One-half Math Teacher at Tolland High School
- One Secretarial position at Tolland High School
The question on the ballot is as follows:
“Shall the town of Tolland’s Proposed 2016-2017 budget of $55,806,582 reflecting a spending increase of $1,207,652, which is an increase of 2.21% resulting in a mill rate of 34.19 mills be adopted? Yes/No”
District #1 and #3 vote at the Tolland Recreation Center, 104 Old Post Road.
District #2 votes at the Tolland Senior Center, 647 Tolland Stage Road
